Detailed Lining

The Stigma-X Round Liners are packed tightly together, making them especially useful for detailed technical work and line work. With this needle, you get wonderfully thin lines with no backlash. The needles are grouped together in a tight, round formation to enhance ink flow and overall precision. The configuration determines the shape and pattern of how the ink will go into the skin.

Detailed Lining

The Stigma-X Round Shaders are more loosely grouped together and are effectively used for color fill and basic shading techniques. The shading results are much smoother and cleaner. The soft edges are less traumatic on the skin, promoting faster recovery. These shaders are safer to use than ever before!

Less Painful for the Skin

The Stigma-X Round Magnums have a rounded, curved shape similar to that of a paint brush. They were designed to be less traumatic to the skin, instead fitting and flowing with the natural contours of the flesh when the needle is applied. With a round magnum, the arch of the needle will allow you to move more freely on the skin without the risk of the edges digging in. They allow you to create uniform shading and smooth transitions between the elements, all while efficiently coloring larger areas with a soft, natural feathering style.

Smooth Gradient & Portrait

The Stigma-X Bugpin needles are very tiny needles with a tighter grouping pattern. Perfect for creating smooth gradients and portrait work. Due to the small needles and close grouping, they leave less space between strokes.

Blend & Fill

The Stigma-X Single Magnums (aka Weaved Magnum Needles) are the go-to for almost all shading work. Magnums deliver a lot of ink, making them ideal for large areas that need a lot of color and pigmentation. These needles are often used for filling in large areas, blending and shading.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best needle to use for shading tattoos?

Stigma-X Magnum tattoo needles work best for covering large areas of skin so they would be perfect for shading tattoos.

Are the needles straight, unbent & sharp?

Absolutely! If needles are crooked, bent or dull, it can do major damage to the skin and won’t distribute ink evenly. It will definitely cause more harm than good.

What is the best needle to use for outlining tattoos?

Stigma-X Round Liners are the best for outlining your design.

Are the needles pre-sterilized?

Yes! Our Stigma-X Tattoo Needles come in individually labelled packs and are 100% sterile upon opening.

Do these needles work with any machine?

Yes, but make sure you are using a cartridge machine or rotary machine and it’s in a standard set-up grouping.

What is the needle code?

The initial 2-digits speak to the diameter of the tattoo needles in the grouping, the second 2-digits speak to the number of needles in the grouping, and the letters toward the end describe the type of needle grouping.

In this example, in our 1007RL model, we're discussing a group of 7 #10-diameter (Bugpin 0.35mm) tattoo needles in a round liner grouping. This item may be called #10 7-Round Liner Tattoo Needles.

Tattoo needle counts and grouping?

The next two digits in a code (like 1204RL) refer to the number of needles in the grouping. So, in our example, 04 means there are 4 #12-diameter (Standard) needles grouped together. The way they're grouped is defined by the letters at the end of the code. RL = Round Liner, which means they're tattoo needles meant for lining work that are grouped into a circle.

How do you use a Tattoo Needle?

So, how do you use tattoo needles like rounds, magnums and curved magnums? Rounds are quite straight forward. The larger the area of coverage, the larger needle count you would use. For thicker lines, use a larger count round liner. Pigment dispersion using a magnum is much smoother than when using rounds. A good comparison would be that a round liner is similar to a pen while a magnum closely resembles a magic marker. Proper use of a magnum takes a bit of practice, as it has more of a learning curve.

The magnum should always hit the skin at an angle. If it goes in straight and not at an angle, it will stick into the skin which will cause the needle to jump. Always drag the magnum throughout the skin by pulling it across. Do not push forward as this will cause the magnum to dig into the skin, causing unnecessary pain and catching of the needle. Color in a circular motion. A magnum, being naturally wider, will cover more area faster than a conventional round. Wipe the skin often so you can pay attention to the texture while you are using a magnum.
